We didn't grow up doing this.
Stone & Hoof is our first-generation farm on Colorado's Western Slope. We've made plenty of mistakes...and are enjoying every minute. Just us, figuring out how to raise happy and healthy livestock, one day at a time.
We started by watching the hay farmer that leased our land. When the lease was up, we upgraded irrigation infrastructure, planted orchard grass, alfalfa, and clover, and built a permanent fence with a hotwire. In spring of 2026, we brought in six Dorper sheep and implemented a rotational grazing plan with electric netting and rope. Good thing we have that fence too, because sheep love to escape!
Peach trees are in the ground. Chickens are next.
